Picture details: 1st picture- me at 19 joining the military at 175lb Middle picture- me at 23 after a 4 year stint in the military at 290+ lbs 3rd picture- me at 31, 190lbs running Badwater 135 As a 19yo, my dreams of the military helped me get on the right track. I finally felt that I had found my purpose. Little did I know just how many deep-rooted issues I truly had. While joining the Air Force was great, it couldn’t fix all of my problems. I had buried so much of my earlier life that once all of that shit imploded in my mind, it caused my life to go into great turmoil. Gaining over 120lbs in less than three years is how I covered up a ton of insecurities and self-doubt. I was simply a big body with a very weak mind. It took a lot of self-reflection, hard work, and determination to get to the other side. Throughout this journey I realized one thing, you are truly never done trying to improve yourself. If you are still breathing, it is not too late! Learn to be a warrior in life. Don’t sit down in defeat! If you find yourself getting weaker, become stronger! If you find yourself falling behind the crowd, run faster! If you find yourself not keeping up in school, work harder! Never retreat, never surrender. Never look to the outside for acceptance or approval. Become better than all of the odds in front of you and fuck managing expectations!

Who are your fucking heroes? June 28, 2005, Yuma, AZ. It was the last day of Military Freefall School. One of the best things about Yuma is that you have horrible cell service. I’m not big on texting or talking on the phone so this gave me 4 weeks of peace!! When you graduate any military school, you have to clean all of the areas your class used before you can leave. My cleaning detail happened to be one of the only places in Yuma that has cell service, the fucking bathroom at the barracks. Go figure! As I walked into the bathroom, I could hear the phone in my bag going batshit crazy! Text messages were flooding my phone. As I read the messages, my soul broke. I was reading that guys I went through SEAL training with had been killed in Operation Red Wings (Lone Survivor). At that point in time, everyone on the Op was dead but Marcus Luttrell was not yet accounted for. No one knew if he was dead or alive but I figured he suffered the same fate as the others. Morgan Luttrell, Marcus’ twin brother, was in my freefall class and had no idea about what had happened on the Op. One of the best things about guys in Special Ops is that you don’t have to beat about the bush. I walked outside and told Morgan the news. He was the only one that knew his brother was alive and, in fact, he was. I went to almost every Special Ops school known to man from Air Force to BUD/s to Rangers to Delta Selection. Why? I was in search of the hardest men to ever roam this earth. Well, I found what I was looking for. Out of the 11 SEALs that died 13 years ago, I was in BUD/s with 4 of them and Marcus was there too. Danny Dietz, Michael Murphy and Michael McGreevy were in my various BUD/s classes, Class 231, 235 and 230 respectively. To say I knew these men on a personal level is very humbling. A lot of us look up to the wrong role models and so called “heroes.” Some heroes need millions of dollars each year or they won’t go to practice. The guys that died on this day 13 years ago would have paid to serve this country. If you want to get better, surround yourself with people who make you question how good you truly are. These men did that for me and made me better as a result.

The most important conversations you will ever have are the ones you have with yourself. You wake up with them. You walk around with them. You go to bed with them. Eventually you act on them. Rather it be good or bad. We live in a world full of haters and jealous people. People so fucked up in their own lives that they can’t move forward so they put their hate for themselves on you. This world is full of distractions- a lot of them are from other people, social media, some are self-imposed. In a world full of distractions, you must learn to live in it undistracted, unphased. Never let the weakness of this world infiltrate your mind! To do that you must truly know yourself! Don't allow people to puppet master you from being fucking great! #canthurtme

2005 a 24-hodinový ultramaratón

June 28, 2005 I was graduating freefall school with Morgan Luttrell, Marcus Luttrell's identical twin. Both are Navy SEALs. At the same time as we were graduating freefall school, Marcus was in one of the worst incidents in SEAL history (Operation Red Wings). I was the unlucky one who had to tell Morgan the bad news that everybody on the Mission was killed and they couldn't find Marcus. When I told Morgan the news, he was stoic. He said "My brother is fine because I don't feel anything." Come to find out Morgan was right. Marcus was the only survivor. It was at this time that my ultra running career started as I was looking for ways to raise money for the Special Ops Warrior Foundation. • Fast forward 12 years. I get a call from Morgan and he wants to do an ultra. We picked Leadville 50 miler. So yesterday Morgan, "HC," and I did the Leadville 50. These two men are hard as nails but not built for speed! At 6"5 220lbs, they are more like lumberjacks!! We had agreed to tackle the 50 miles together. Their goal was to make the 14-hour cut off. At each aid station we were cutting it close. By mile 25, the guys were hurting…BAD! I was now going to see just how hard these guys are. I know what the mind is saying to them…the demons have come out to play! For the next 25 miles these two were going to be in mental and physical pain! • These two men went to another place mentally and it was a beautiful thing to see! They truly embraced the pain. Everything negative, they made into a positive. When the demons came out, they talked to them- they didn't run and hide! Mental demons don't like when you make friends with them because they know you are no longer scared of them! We finished in the cut off time and I couldn't be more proud of the two men that just said fuck it!

This morning I ran with a person dealing with plantar fasciitis for several months. Some athletes that are getting paid would have to take games and practice off because of plantar fasciitis. This girl who's not getting paid shit is doing it to better herself. The everyday person truly amazes me. Most don't get paid for the training they do. They reschedule this and that just to find time to get the training in. They push through injuries.  I hear about these athletes who are getting paid millions, but can't play because of a cold, or plantar fasciitis, or a bruised leg, or soreness, etc. They rest professional athletes nowadays. What the hell is that?! A 30 year-old can't exercise 60 mins 4 days a week! Think if the under paid military had that mindset. You give the everyday person that kind of money and they will play on broken legs and be happy doing it. Many of you have demanding lives and still find time to workout or whatever you do. A mother of two just broke the indoor marathon record. Her and her husband have crazy schedules. The everyday person is driven for so many reasons! I remember watching Anton at Leadville running up Hopes Pass. It was one of the most amazing things I had ever seen. I was hardly moving, my hands were on my knees and I was hurting badly! The man wasn't looking for a pay check. He was just chasing a course record. The most amazing things I have ever seen were not by the over paid pros. It was by the people you will never hear about. Some are running the mountains of Colorado. Some fighting in the streets of Iraq. Yes, I love professional sports. But the hardest people in the world are the everyday people. A lot of them want it like there's no tomorrow!  No rest days to be rested for the playoffs, no sitting out because the 40 million I'm making isn't enough.  Everyday people just tape the shit up and go run! Tolerate discomfort for a greater purpose! #RogerThatMentality #BeyondMotivated
